Sea alms ceremony is a tradition passed down through generations that have been implemented since many years ago. This tradition will be maintained as one of the coastal communities in Sadeng Harbour.
For people living around Sadeng, Girisubo, the sea is a source of livelihood. From the sea, they can meet all their daily needs. Endless sea fish stocks so that residents who mostly work as fishermen can earn money to support a family.
As a form of gratitude to Almighty God, every tuesday or Friday ‘kliwon’ (Javanese Calendar) in Suro ( the Javanese calendar), fisherman in Sadeng held a Sea Alms. This activity has always been the concern of hundreds citizens who work as fishermen and thousand people around Sadeng Harbour. This year (2014) a tradition of Sea Alms in, Friday (7/11).
Sea Aims event, starting with a ceremony at the beach complex. “Ubo rampe” in the form of rice cone, ingkung, chickens, flowers, goat’s head, goat skins, fruit and snack market by the elders prayed for residents in the pavilion on the beach. Its about 160 item must be there in sea alms.
While hundreds of people were already waiting to come on board to take to sea entire offerings that have been prayed for.
Finished the prayer hall, the accompanying slow then taken by boat to the middle of the sea. Carrier Boat accompanying this slow followed by tens of hundreds of people who boarded the ship.
Elders Sadeng, Sarpan said alms is an expression of gratitude to the fishermen to Almighty God for the sustenance of fish harvests are abundant. Hopefully, through this sea alms ceremony, catches the fishermen are overflowing so that it can improve the welfare of his family.
In addition, through the alms ceremony is expected that all fishermen in Sadeng given safety when at sea. All the fishermen who went to sea to catch fish can go home safely. [rovitavare/jogjatoday]
